Quoting Abigail again...

and, no, not Abigail Adams, although she has plenty of good things to say!!  But, Abigail Ahern!

On how she shops when on special buying trips (not buying on-trend, etc.)....

We simply follow our hea[r]ts; if they skip a beat we buy it. I would say do the same with your home – when you decorate from the heart you’ll get the best results!

Which is just how it is, no?  Color combos that make you happy every single time you walk into the room, a weird/ugly/beautiful fixture that just somehow makes sense (to you!), and taking a wall out because it becomes that zebra in your brain after someone tells you to think of anything--anything!--but a zebra!

I like to think that I already follow this piece of advice pretty well, but sometimes I do select a color or piece of furniture, or configure a room based on "how you're supposed to do it."  No more!  If I don't love it, it's not happening!  And if i do love it, well, watch out--here come the sledgehammers for that wall!

I bang on about this all the time but the more things in a room, the more interesting the vibe. Often times people stop decorating too soon and yet its the details that add the intrigue.  -Abigail Ahern

Yes, I know this can be taken too far...or easily be done incorrectly, but I like knowing I'm right! (At least according to a very talented designer!)

More is more! Bring on the stuff--the pretties, the treasures, the whatchamachalits, the things with stories, the weird, the useful, the just plain awesome STUFF! And worry about dusting later...

If you need help...head on over to the Etsy shop to find some awesome stuff to layer up your rooms!

A surprising amount....

...of snow...and a surprising amount of productive things which can be accomplished, even when sick, when there is a surprising amount of snow trapping you inside!

It snowed. We've been sick.  I have spent an embarrassing number of hours in bed. Asleep.  Awake. Trying to not cough up a lung. Cuddling puppies. Watching James Adams from HBO (very good, btw). Doing some combination of all of those things.  But then I hit that point where I just couldn't spend another minute in bed. Right about the time that church was cancelled, roads became impassable.  So, what did I do?  PRODUCTIVE THINGS!!!! YAY!!!!! I made covers for two dog beds, made a new pantry curtain, and FINALLY hung my mini gallery wall in the bedroom.  Yes, it's an homage to John and my's in-love-ness. Which is why it's in our bedroom and not the front hall. There is one tiny empty corner waiting for a wedding pic from his parents.  Mine are the ones ducking the rice on the far right. Awwwww.....

Anyway, super happy about how it turned out. And so glad to have finally finished it after months of the various photos piling up on the dresser and mantel.  I did end up snatching a few that were intended for Etsy. Oops.  Just can't part with them.

Now back to the sewing...Happy Snow Day! (I feel like no matter where you are reading this, it's probably snowy, according to weather.com.
